Fauquier Education Farm

The Fauquier Education Farm has a dual focus: offering agricultural education to county residents and growing produce for local food banks. Programs are conducted to serve existing farmers, beginning farmers, students, and residents.

This education component includes:

  • The beginning farmer program

  • Agricultural best practices demonstration

  • Workshop series

  • Field trips for school classes and other groups

Fresh produce grown on the Farm is distributed to local food banks for further distribution to those in need. In 2020, despite the pandemic, record production of over 70,000 pounds of produce was grown and distributed.

Crops planted this year include squash, watermelon, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, cantaloupe, potatoes, cucumbers, onions, peppers, sweet potatoes, eggplant and tomatoes. Flowers too.

Master Gardeners partner with the Fauquier Education Farm to promote agricultural education and serve our community. The work of the Farm is led by the Fauquier Education Farm Executive Director, Jim Hankin.

Master gardeners are the farm’s super volunteers, always willing to assist with any task and work with community volunteers.
— Jim Hankins

Have never had more fun learning than attending Jim’s Master Gardener class and planting, weeding and harvesting next to him at the ED farm. Love the families that come out to help - can’t wait to bring my grandchildren out.
