Native Plant Identification Walk
Extension Master Gardeners and Audubon at Home volunteers will lead a walk to identify what is in bloom and growing in the woods at C. M. Crockett Park.
Learn to identify both native plants that support our ecosystem and some of the invasive plants threatening their survival. Find out why natives are so important to supporting our birds, butterflies, native bees and other insects, and how planting them on your property can help our local ecosystem thrive.
We will walk at a leisurely pace and show you some of the best the park has to offer. Be prepared for the weather and for walking on mixed terrain of flat, hilly, muddy or rocky conditions.
Meet at the kiosk in the parking lot. We will depart promptly at 10am. Please arrive early to allow time to apply sunscreen, tick spray, hiking boots as needed.

How to Help Pollinators in your Neighborhood
We usually think of bees, but butterflies, moths, bats, beetles, wasps and flies are common pollinators. Diana Graves will share her wisdom and experience with pollinators. She will briefly cover their importance to our environment and three easy way that you can support pollinators. She will also highlight the resources can have in any size garden to help the pollinators.
Diana Graves has been a beekeeper for over a decade. She is a long time Extension Master Gardener and has a horse farm in southern Fauquier.
The class will be held primarily indoors with a brief walk in the gardens at the Extension Office if there is time and the weather permits.

This Zoom training will focus on the most common edible plants and mushrooms found in our area. We will look at their key identifiers, the timing of their harvest, and possible uses for these edible plants and mushrooms.
Zoe Bergman is the Area Forester of Fauquier County. She has a a M.S. Degree in Environmental Sciences from the University of Virginia. She has studied plants and forest ecology for the last 6 years developing a passion for foraging!

Grow Your Own Food Earth Day Event
Free public event with outdoor workshops, indoor presentations, kids activities, raffles and great garden giveaways. Follows the first Spring/Summer Farmer’s market. Featured presenters Ashley Goodwin, Fauquier Education Farm Education Specialist, Basics of Growing Food in our Region, and Mary Austin, Lee Highway Nursery, Growing Food in Small Spaces. Healthy Soil and Plant and Seed Giveaway
Extension Agent Tim Ohlwiler will discuss how to improve the health and fertility of your soil. We will cover the basics of soil testing, adding compost, fertilizer, lime and other soil amendments. We will discuss benefits of organic matter in soil and how to increase organic content in the soil. Following the talk, we will be giving away extra plants that we have grown or divided and seeds that we have harvested – all free to the public. Stay on to learn the history of the schoolhouse at the monthly open house from 1:00 – 3:00 PM.

Parking is limited at #18 Schoolhouse. Additional parking is available at the Northern Fauquier Community Park or along Whiting Road. Please do not park along Highway 55.
